TimeShift America produces educational videos that will take you on a unique journey. Starting with a single photograph from long ago, the viewer travels from the present day to a specific place and time. From there, the past is examined in a dynamic style that is engaging and educational.
Partnering with educators, each TimeShift America video tells a story with primary-source information, many maps, charts, graphs, newspaper articles, government documents, historical videos, audio clips, and more. With each video lesson, there are supplemental assessments aligned with developing models of equity and inclusion that promote Michigan’s diversity. Connections to many of Michigan’s K-12 Social Studies Standards are contained within each video, along with content that is culturally rich and authentic.
From one photograph, we travel through transformative and dynamic times that makes the viewer think like a geographer, sociologist, economist, policy-maker, and a participant in history. These lessons create a springboard to a journey of interdisciplinary discovery and learning. Accompanying these TimeShift videos are links for students to continue their journey of inquiry and discovery with the online resources, documents and assessments found within this website.
